Oggi come avevo programmato prima di ritornare a Mandaley ho deciso di esplorare la parte opposta del fiume, e come sospettavo si è rivelata una buona scelta.
La zona è piena di monasteri più o meno grandi e lungo il fiume è pieno di barche e barchette per la pesca.
Today, as I had planned, before going back to Mandalay, I explored the opposite part of the river. As I expected, it turned out to be a good choice.
There are plenty of monasteries in the area, and along the river there are many boats used for fishing.
Ma la cosa più interessante è stato arrivare a Mingun, per due motivi, vedere la stupa incompiuta, qui la chamano così e l’ incontro di un ragazzo veramente speciale.
La stupa incompiuta è un blocco di mattoni enorme come si vede dalla foto sopra, non è mai stata finita e diversi terremoti hanno provocato varie crepe nel blocco.
But the most interesting thing was to get in Mingun, for two reasons. First, seeing the unfinished stupa, as they call it here. Second, meeting a very special guy.
The unfinished stupa is a huge building made of bricks as you can see in the picture above. It has never been completed and several earthquakes caused many cracks in the wall.
Ovviamente ho deciso di arrampicarmi fino in cima al grande blocco di mattoni e questa è la bella vista.
Of course I decided to climb to the top of the huge batch of bricks, and this is the nice view from there.
Come dicevo sopra la seconda sorpresa della giornata è stata incontrare Zin, un ragazzo di 36 anni che dopo aver avuto la fortuna ( rara da queste parti) di completare il corso di studi anche universitario, ha deciso di dedicare il suo tempo per garantire un’istruzione ai ragazzi dei villaggi della regione che non possono permettersi alcuna educazione.
As I said above, the second surprise of the day was meeting Zin, a 36 years old guy who, after having completed his education and even studied at university (an uncommon opportunity here) decided to devot his time to giving an education to kids living in the villages of this region, who can’t afford one.
Zin mi ha mostrato la piccola scuola che ha costruito per i ragazzi del villaggio ma mi ha anche spiegato moltissime delle dinamiche che portano i ragazzi a non poter avere un’istruzione scolastica.
Il tutto è un po lungo da descrivere vi basti sapere però che per chi volesse dare una mano come volontario mi puo contattare per le info del caso.
Zin showed me the small school he built for the kids, but he also explained to me the various reasons why people cannot have a proper school education.
The whole thing is quite long to explain, anyway, If you want to help as a volunteer you can contact me and I will give you all the necessary information.
Incuriosito mi sono fatto mostrare i libri che Zin usa per insegnare inglese.
Cosi abbiamo parlato molto su come migliorare la scuola per dare l’oppprtunità a molti più ragazzi.. Zin mi ha spiegato che collegato al suo lavoro i monaci dei monasteri dei villaggi della regione hanno costruito delle scuole dove i ragazzi ricevono la prima istruzione e che il suo lavoro è molto spesso contribuire a far funzionare queste scuole che non hanno alcun fondo statale.
I was really curios and I asked Zin to show me the books he uses for teaching English.
We discussed a lot on how to improve school in order to give this opportunity to more kids. Zin explained to me that monks of the monastries in these villages build some schools where people can get primary education and that part of his work is often to help these schools functioning, as they do not receive any public funds.
Vedendomi interessato Zin mi ha proposto di ritornare il giorno seguente per visitare le scuole ed i villaggi per potergli dare qualche consiglio su come migliorare o aiutare i monaci..
Ovviamente ho detto SI a domani !
Seeing that I was so interested, Zin asked to go back the day after to visit the schools and the villages and to give him some advice on how to improve them or on how to help the monks.
Of course I said yes, see you tomorrow!
